Punch Needle

This is what I have been working on, before my looms arrived – more on those later .  This little lady is about 8 inches tall and 4 inches at the widest point.  For those who don’t know, she is done in punch needle embroidery.  At the moment she is still flat, but I will attach her to a piece of material for her back and then stuff her with toy filler and lavender.

Punch needle embroidery is a lovely craft, it can be quite … mindless,  which is something I can certainly do with sometimes.  Actually perhaps I should call it relaxing, but I am sure you know what I mean.  The little pop pop pop as the needle goes into the cloth is soothing. This is the punch needle that I use, it’s a Cameo Ultra Punch, it comes with 3 sizes of needles small, medium and large, and you can use 6, 3 or 2 strands of embroidery thread, or even different kinds of thread, which will give you many different looks. This was one of the first pieces that I did a couple of years ago, I copied the picture off a set of coasters that we use during the holiday season.  To mount this one I glued it to a wooden box that I had painted and distressed and just to finish it off glued some cord around the punching.I do love making these little dolls, this was the first one that I made, and as usual made a few mistakes during the process.  This one is flat too, mainly because I cut the weavers cloth too close to the punching and although I did manage to put a back on it, I could not turn it to the right side as the weavers cloth started to fray.  So it was immediately cut off and I will use this one as a decoration for a notebook or another box.

It’s a rotten day weather wise here in my part of the UK and I think that punch needle will be on the menu for this afternoon.  I need to do some Christmas designs of my own.  I will let you know what I come up with.

Have a great day everyone.

Waiting

Waiting waiting…

What am I waiting for?

Why the postman of course!  He has my two new looms, a 4″ multi triangle and a 6″ multi square.  I have been dying for these looms for ages.  My dearest Mr Bobbins surprised me and ordered them for me on Friday evening.

They came from Wild Colours – see blog list – and I know that Teresinah is very quick with the post, she posted them on Saturday apparently, and I am jumping up and down and rushing to the window every five minutes.   Ohhhh can’t wait!

Catch you later… Oh by the way, I did finish all the UFO’s in the last post just in case you were wondering.
